Get More From What You Have
One of the main objects for any manager is to get more out of their team. A good manager wants more cohesiveness, which will lead to more productive work being accomplished, which will lead to more results, which leads to the manager and his team not only looking good to the rest of the organization, and industry, but most importantly they will be successful in their goals. What good manager or entrepreneur doesn’t want to be considered as successful?
Getting your business to be successful creates a plethora of opportunities for everyone involved, and it creates a great amount of career opportunities for yourself. When your employees feel like you’re helping them, then they are more inclined to help you achieve whatever goal of the month you are pushing. When you go out of your way to help them, then you create a relationship of trust between you and those individuals. This creates a connection that becomes part of the employee’s self-conscious. That individual then has something inside of them that makes them like you. They want to help you in return, even if they don’t even know it.
When you’re getting your business off the ground, continually helping people is a necessity. It provides you an opportunity to make connections, and create sympathetic feelings towards you for their help — as long as you provide the help without asking for anything in return. It is important to point out that no one is going to feel like they owe you anything, but they (again, self-consciously) will feel like they want to help you.
See the difference? Owing someone something is an obligation. You are taking it a step further with getting them to actually have a desire created within themselves to help you at some future point. The more you help, the more likely you will be able to see them reciprocate in the future.
In addition, the more you get out and genuinely help others, then the more opportunities will come your way. More and more opportunities will be provided to those entrepreneurs who have built a network of individuals who are thankful to you for either current or past actions which you have delivered to them.
A lot of people talk about karma as a physical substance. I’m not going to debate whether that is true or not, but I will say that karma is very real. Karma to me is simply a word that signifies the fact that the more you give of yourself (your time, talents, and knowledge) then the more that is given back to you. The more you find ways to help people in your workplace, in your community, or in your industry, then the more opportunities you will see come back to you.
The Quiet Brilliance of Loving Others Before Yourself
Gary Vaynerchuk spoke at South By Southwest (SXSW) 2016 and did a straight shooting Q&A session. His entire hour was just answering questions. While this works perfectly for his new book and for his video blog series about answering everyone’s online questions, he also went out of his way to help everyone in attendance. He stood outside at the entrance to the room as everyone was filing into the conference room. He shook hands, said hi to everyone, and took pictures with many fans. Why does that matter? It matters because he was pushing his brand. He was letting everyone know exactly what was important to him — and he even got to talk about it.
Someone stood and asked him why he stood outside of the room as we all entered, when no one else did that at the entire SXSW conference. His answer was simple, and is telling to the whole point of this spiel. The reason? He said something like this:
“Why are you wanting to come see my session? Why are you willing to watch or listen to my content? Why are you willing to buy my book? It’s simple, and it’s the same reason – because I loved you first. If you truly show people that you care about them then they will give it back to you tenfold.”
That was his answer. So simple, and so genius. It works marvels for his brand, and it works because he genuinely wants to give everyone information that will help them. It’s very genuine, and it would not work if it wasn’t. He cared about us first, and therefore we care about him. We care about what he does, what he says, and what he sells. Giving people of yourself before you ever ask for anything in return is the key to genuine success. It’s the key to strong management, and to selling something later. If you do not genuinely care about people – then do not try to be an entrepreneur. In almost every single case, it will not work.
How to Establish a Them First Culture
So how can you find ways to help others? I have put together four tips for you to utilize in order to help others grow, which will help you find the results that you seek. It is important to point out that if you do not genuinely want to help others, then this will not work. You cannot provide help with the only intention being that you are going to receive something in return. My karma does not work that way, and neither will yours. With that out of the way, here are the five tips for you to help others grow:
Find ways to get to know others whenever you can, and make the conversation all about them. Do not ask them anything for yourself. Do not talk about yourself unless they ask. Genuinely listen to what they are telling you. This will provide an opportunity to know exactly how to help these individuals. They will tell you, word for word, what they want (or what they are struggling with). There is no better way to know how to help someone than by listening to their struggles.
In fact, a good amount of the time, listening will actually be the help that they need. Some people just want to be heard, or they just need a shoulder to cry on. Listening, in these circumstances, will create the connection that you seek, and it will provide the help that they need.
If you see someone struggling to find the right answer, or the right way to do their job, then you should step in and ask if they need any help. Some may turn you down, but more than you think will be completely open to receiving some ideas to their problems. Most individuals just want to accomplish what they need with the lowest amount of time spent on it. Showing them how they can make their project better is a surefire way to help those who are open to your help.
When you see someone struggling, or when you hear someone needs help, what do you do? Do you sit back and pretend like you did not hear anything? Do you not even hear the problem because you’re so wrapped up in your own life? What you should do is pave a way to these individuals and offer any help you can provide. A simple, “Do you need any help with that?” can go a long way in making someone feel better when they’re struggling.
Action is the key to helping others. When you act, then you are going to see the results that you seek. Taking action should go without explanation as to the importance of it. The difference between you and the majority of other people is that you are going to choose to take action. Most others will flounder around thinking that it would be nice to get the results that others have (such as you!), but they will not put forth the effort to make it happen.
When you see an opportunity to help someone, then act as quickly as you can! Something I have had to overcome in life is figuring out how to take time out to focus on others and seeing opportunities to help, or serve, them as quickly as I can. Obtaining this skill has improved my life by more than I can calculate!
The Smart Hack
So search your soul a bit and realize that the best way to help yourself is to help those around you grow and improve. The quicker you can put these tips into action and figure out how to help your team, your friends, and your industry-mates then the faster you will see your own version of karma rolling in. The faster you’ll turn yourself from an entrepreneur into an actual successful business owner.
